Compare

Two paths. One honest comparison.

Most people choose between a Medicare Supplement and a Medicare Advantage plan. Here is how they differ at a glance.

Medicare Advantage

Costs when you get care
Supplement: Low or none, depending on the plan letter

Prescription drugs
Supplement: Add a separate Part D plan
Advantage: Usually built in
Dental, vision, hearing
Supplement: Not included, can be added
Advantage: Often included
Quick tools

Not sure which path? Two quick tools.

Neither one is advice. They give you a starting point, and James checks your doctors and prescriptions before recommending anything.

Which path fits me?

Four yes-or-no questions. About 20 seconds.

1Is there a doctor or hospital you want to keep, no matter what?

2Do you travel or spend part of the year in another state?

3Is a low monthly premium more important to you than predictable costs?

4Would you use dental, vision or hearing benefits if a plan included them?

Based on the Medicare Initial Enrollment Period rules. If you are still working with employer coverage, or already 65, your dates can differ. James will confirm them.

Have this ready for your plan check.

Why independent

Why work with an independent agent?

More choices

I compare plans from multiple insurance companies, not one.

Same price

Plan prices are set by the carrier. Using me costs you nothing extra.

A real person

Call me with a claim question or a billing surprise. I pick up.

Questions

Common questions

Does it cost anything to work with you?

No. Insurance companies pay agents. Your premium is the same whether you enroll with me or on your own.

When should I start if I’m turning 65?

About three months before your birthday month. That gives time to compare plans before your coverage needs to begin.

Can I keep my doctors?

Tell me who they are. I check every plan against your doctors before recommending anything.

Can I change plans later?

Yes, at set times each year. Annual Enrollment runs October 15 to December 7. I will remind you before it opens.

Can I switch from Advantage back to a Supplement?

Yes, during Annual Enrollment or from January 1 to March 31. The catch is that a Supplement company can ask health questions unless you have a guaranteed right to buy, for example during your first year on your first Advantage plan. I check that before you change anything.

Do you help with Medicaid or Extra Help?

If you have Medicaid or a limited income, you may qualify for Extra Help with drug costs or a plan built for people with both Medicare and Medicaid. I check whether you qualify and walk you through the application.
